Our story

Grown in one place in the world

Rooibos grows in only one place on earth — the Cederberg mountains of South Africa, where the plant takes root in the region's mineral soil. Rooibosveld grows it organically there, then harvests and ferments the leaves, a step that turns them the deep red-brown of a good rooibos and brings out its smooth, slightly sweet flavour. Steeped, it makes a mellow, naturally caffeine-free brew that you can drink at any hour. It is a single-origin tea with a gentle character and a story tied to one patch of the world.

How it's made

Rooibos is grown organically in the Cederberg, harvested and cut, then left to ferment — a step that turns the leaves red-brown and develops the flavour. The fermented leaves are dried and sorted, then packed whole or cut into a fine grade.

How to use it

Steep a teaspoon of rooibos in freshly boiled water for five to seven minutes, then strain and enjoy. It is naturally caffeine-free, so it is good at any time of day — hot, or chilled over ice.

Good to know

How do I store it?

Keep the rooibos in its sealed pouch in a cool, dry place, away from strong smells. Stored well, it keeps its flavour for a long time.

Is it a health product?

No. It is a caffeine-free herbal tea. It is not a medicine and not intended to treat or address any condition — it is simply a pleasant drink.

How do I brew it?

Steep a teaspoon in freshly boiled water for five to seven minutes, then strain and enjoy. It takes a little longer than black tea but is very forgiving.

What does fermented mean?

Fermentation is a step after harvest where the cut rooibos leaves are left to react, turning them a deep red-brown and developing the smooth, slightly sweet flavour. Green rooibos skips this step.

Is it really caffeine-free?

Yes. Rooibos is naturally free of caffeine, so it is a calm cup you can enjoy at any hour, without the stimulant you get from tea or coffee.

Where does rooibos grow?
